CHIEF INSPECTOR
Objective
The Chief Inspector is responsible for the administration and supervision of the maintenance performed by MAATS. All maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations must be performed in compliance per the Repair Station Manual (RSM) and Quality Contral Manual (QCM). applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer's instructions, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and company standards. This position serves as the primary liaison for the FAA in all maintenance-related and regulatory matters. The Chief Inspector is accountable for the overall operation of the inspection system and the supervision of inspection personnel.
Responsibilities & Duties
Inspection System Oversight
- Administer and maintain the inspection system in accordance with the RSM and applicable FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 145, and Parts 43, 65, 91, and 135 as applicable)
- Ensure all inspections are properly performed and documented prior to approval for return to service (RTS)
- Serve as the primary liaison for FAA inspectors and regulatory agencies
Technical Data Control
- Ensure all technical data is current, approved, and available, including:

- Customer supplied Manufacturer maintenance manuals
- Service Bulletins (SBs)
- Airworthiness Directives (ADs)
- Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA)
- Company manuals and procedures
Inspection Authority
- Perform and/or supervise inspections of aircraft, engines, components, and appliances for conformity and airworthiness
- Ensure Required Inspection Items (RII), if applicable, are properly identified, documented, and accomplished
Return to Service Authorization
- Ensure that only qualified and authorized personnel approve articles for return to service
- Manage logbooks and Return-to-Service approvals
- Review and approve maintenance records, logbook entries, FAA Form 8130-3 (if applicable), and other airworthiness documentation
Manual Control & Compliance
- Maintain and ensure the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), and Training Program are current
- Ensure all inspection procedures align with FAA-approved manuals and company policies
Receiving & Incoming Inspection
- Ensure all incoming parts, materials, and components are inspected for:
- Proper documentation and traceability
- Airworthiness certification
- Conformity to order and condition
Personnel Supervision
- Direct, train, and evaluate inspection personnel
- Ensure inspectors are properly certificated, trained, and authorized
Audits & FAA Coordination
- Conduct internal audits of inspection and quality systems as required
- Act as primary liaison with the FAA for inspection- department and the Repair Station
- Support FAA surveillance, audits, and investigations
Tooling & Calibration
- Ensure all inspection tools and test equipment are properly calibrated and controlled in accordance with RSM procedures
Corrective Action & Safety
- Identify discrepancies and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Support the Safety Management System (SMS), if applicable
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements and repair station operations
- High attention to detail and strong compliance mindset
- Leadership and supervisory experience in aviation maintenance inspection
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, and engineering data
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with maintenance tracking systems and Microsoft Office
- Customer-focused with a professional demeanor
- Results-driven with strong time management skills
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Accountable Manager. However, works closely with the Director of Maintenance.
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and hangar environments and includes exposure to:
- Aircraft movement areas
- Loud noise levels, chemicals, and machinery
- Outdoor conditions in various weather environments
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift to 75 pounds
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments
Position Type & Hours
- Full-time position. Non-exempt.
- May require evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability
- Ability to work flexible and extended hours
Travel
- Limited travel may be required
Education, Experience & Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 7-10 years of aviation maintenance experience
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required
- Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred (or required per certificate)
- Previous inspection or supervisory experience required
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations and Repair Station operations
- Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO9000, AS9100/AS9110 preferred)
Preferred
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in corporate or general aviation maintenance.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Ability to pass background check
- Participation in DOT drug and alcohol testing program
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
